Safeway maritime rotterdam B.v.
Safeway Maritime Rotterdam BV (SMR) is a training centre for safe passage in the nautical and maritime field in Europe. Every year hundreds of seafarers, amongst others, especially pilots, follow shorter or longer courses. A little peep into what is offered: pilots are acquainted with new types of ships or harbour and transport accompaniment systems; captains learn to provide guidance for the team on the bridge. Fairly new is the training for maritime officers in managing vessels cruising at a great speed.
Safeway Maritime Rotterdam also uses the simulators and practice vessels of the STC Group in its courses and training. The software focuses on situation in which safety is jeopardised. SMR also provides training in the use of portable navigation systems for pilots and in the piloting of ships into the harbour from ashore.
SMR presents its courses and training in co-operation with other members of the STC Group and the Knowledge Centre of Piloting (Dutch: Kenniscentrum van het Loodswezen), with which a joint venture has been negotiated. This co-operation offers great advantages. The organisation has the expertise, means of learning, lecturers and facilities that provide extra quality to the courses. In this way, SMR can use practise vessels, simulators and helicopters. Pilots can also obtain practical experience on board of sea ships.
Most courses of SMR are presented in Rotterdam, but on the request of the client, they can also be presented at suitable locations elsewhere in the world.
