SAAR® (Simulator Assisted Applied Research)

SAAR®, an independent staff department in the STC Group, occupies itself with developing simulators in the hardware and software fields. Besides that, an important aspect is applied investigation on simulators and in the maritime field.
Within SAAR® we have a large number of specialists like the following:

  1. Naval architects
  2. Software developers
  3. Visual Database developer
  4. VTS experts,

Specialists in the field of human behaviour on board of ships.
Within SAAR®, this combined expertise makes the development of simulators and all related aspects as a turn-key project possible. The simulation software, hydrodynamic models and visuals are developed under own control.

Besides development in the field of simulators for nautical purposes, SAAR® also has a department that concentrates on the development of Transport and Logistics (the Transport Chain Simulator - TCS®) and in the field of Disaster Simulation (the Crisis Management Simulator - CriManSim®).

The Crisis Management Simulator has been developed with the Port Industry and Regional Aid Service Rotterdam-Rijnmond (Dutch: Havenbedrijf en de Regionale Hulpverleningsdienst Rotterdam-Rijnmond) and is currently often used for practising Copi training.

These simulators can also be applied as a turnkey project.

Besides this, much attention is paid in SAAR® to maritime investigation. In this field, many inland and foreign projects are carried out for port authorities, shipping companies and authorities. The projects are mainly related to nautical questions, port design, human behaviour on board of ships, VTS and manoeuvring of ships. Co-operation with engineering bureaus, universities and investigating institutions takes place often. Recently, many investigations concerning Maasvlakte II took place by order of the Port Industry.
